Optical Flats and Monochromatic Lights (FMD)
Since the flatness tolerances achieved by Engis lapping systems can be in the range of just millionths of an inch, the preferred method of measurement flatness is the Engis monochromatic light source and an optical flat. Both are in stocked at our facility in Wheeling, IL.

Application notes:
When using the Hyprez Monochromatic Light
Measuring System:
•  Place the part below the light source (FMD Lamp)
•  Carefully place the optical flat on top of the part
•  Viewing down through the optical flat you will see light and dark bands at the interface of the part and the optical flat.
•  These light bands are used in determining the part flatness.
