Founded in 1938 by Julius Steindler, Engis Corporation is recognized as one of the primary producers of complete superabrasive finishing systems for industry.
Our company was established with the objective of developing compound containing industrial grade diamond to lap, and ultimately improve the accuracy of, Norden Bomb Sights, which was believed to have helped hasten the end of the Second World War.
It was at that time the Hyprez trade name was established. Mr. Steindler insisted that both the Engis and Hyprez names be synonymous with high precision, high quality products.
In 1979 Engis purchased the Helical Lap Company in Michigan, USA, along with the opening of a sales office in Canada. With an eye to establish a global presence, Engis launched a manufacturing and sales facility in Japan in 1983 which was followed by facilities in Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and the UK. In order to better serve our customer base in northern China, a representative office was opened in Beijing in 2004.
